Hi Jenni
So sorry to hear the outcome of your knee surgery and ongoing problems. I believe the synovial problems can be quite common in people with RA who are prone to inflammation of the synovium. As you know, I had a similar op in the summer of 2010 and that has been the cause of ongoing problems that orthopaedics are not happy to sort out. The consequence of which is five bilateral knee aspirations and joint injections in the last 12 months!
I am now struggling to walk as my knees (I think the right one is in sympathy with my left!) won't bend or straighten as they should. I look like and feel like I'm trudging through snow! One of the problems with knee replacement is the inevitable need to replace the 'replacement' and the bone grafts that may be required in the process. Whilst it seems to be accepted that replacements do last longer in RA patients than OA patients, as RAers tend to put less stress on them, further problems arise when they have to remove the prosthetic from its cemented position and put a new one in. It's a right ruddy game isn't it?!
I know you take whatever comes your way and deal with it in the very best of spirit, sometimes that's the only way otherwise we'd all be wailing and gnashing teeth. I hope a method of satisfactory pain relief can be initiated quickly to tide you over this very difficult period until the MDT can get their heads together and come up with a plan.
Chin up chuck. Thinking of you,
Lyn x
